Create OpenClaw skill for Redis-based backplane communication.

Requirements

  • Python wrapper for Redis pub/sub
  • emit() - publish signals to channels
  • subscribe() - listen for signals
  • listen() - blocking message handler

Channels to support

  • mesh.intent.discovered
  • mesh.intent.claimed
  • mesh.result.committed
  • mesh.announce
  • mesh.heartbeat

See

  • specs/signal-semantics.md
  • PRIORITY1_BACKPLANE.md

Completion update:

Implemented in working tree:

  • Redis backplane wrapper with emit/subscribe/listen semantics in substrate/backplane.py
  • Durable streams + consumer groups + retry/dead-letter behavior
  • Repo-tracked OpenClaw skill docs for backplane usage:
    • openclaw/skills/mesh-backplane/SKILL.md
  • Canonical channel support with alias normalization in substrate/protocol.py

Issue acceptance is satisfied for mesh backplane skill/functionality; closing.

Phase Tracking: This issue is part of Phase 0: Foundation

Status: ✅ COMPLETE - Backplane skill implemented in substrate/backplane.py

Dependencies:

  • Depends on: #1 (Redis installed)
  • Blocks: #3 (Worker node), #19 (Multi-node mesh)

Implementation Details:

  • SeedBackplane class with Redis pub/sub
  • MemoryBackplane for testing
  • 11 channels: intent.discovered, capability.advertised, result.committed, etc.
  • Dead-letter support for failed messages
