Details
trim extrusion depth to input IQR core thickness 
IQR (25-75 percentile) of the axial point distribution gives ~9.87mm
vs the RANSAC extent of ~9.96mm. Small but consistent improvement:
plate extraneous 0.119 → 0.113.
