Stale doc-comments claim pipeline runner / v1 routes are deferred until issue #16 (already closed 2026-06-28) #102

Problem

Several code/doc references are stale and reference an issue (#16) that was already resolved on 2026-06-28. The implementation behind those references now exists but the comments weren't updated, which is misleading for future readers.

Locations

1. Mark/easystitch/pipeline_runner.py

Three doc-comments reference the deferred state of the pipeline runner:

  • Line 15 (module docstring): "Wiring into :mod:app is intentionally deferred until issue #16 lands the spec for the upload + pipeline trigger contract."
  • Line 95 (PipelineRunner class docstring): "The actual pipeline invocation is deferred until issue #16 finalises the request/response contract."
  • Line 110 (PipelineRunner.run() docstring): "Currently returns a placeholder result; the real pipeline call is wired in once issue #16 lands."

The pipeline IS now wired in (we just exercised POST /v1/digitize end-to-end — 21k stitches on a geometric PNG, 168k stitches on a photo). These doc-comments are flat-out wrong.

2. Mark/easystitch-service/app.py:154

"# Implementation deferred to the stand-up-easystitch-service plan. All /v1/* routes MUST be registered on this router so the auth dependency applies uniformly. Until that lands, the routes below are 501 stubs that exist so the auth dependency is actually exercised for matching paths."

The /v1/* routes ARE implemented (/healthz, /v1/digitize, /v1/export, /v1/threads/catalog, /v1/threads/resolve all return real responses). Same staleness.

3. Mark/easystitch-service/tests/integration/test_digitize_e2e.py

5 tests skip with reason "Pipeline integration deferred to implementation issue":

  • test_digitize_simple_square_smoke
  • test_digitize_returns_within_budget
  • test_digitize_settings_affect_output
  • test_export_round_trip_to_dst
  • test_resolve_threads_finds_best_match

These tests are now feasible to run. Either the e2e harness needs the actual pipeline invocation wired, or the tests should be re-enabled — but the comment reason is now stale.

Reference: Mark/Kimi_Agent_Brother_10_Digitizing_App#16

Closed 2026-06-28. Acceptance was "working upload+trigger flow from Workspace.tsx through easystitch-client to the service." That IS the production state today.

Suggested fix

Two-pass:

  1. Update the stale references to reflect the current state. Either delete the "(deferred until issue #16)" parentheticals or replace them with a brief note that the contract lives at docs/api.md and is stable.
  2. Investigate the e2e test skips: run the 5 integration tests, see which actually pass, fix the ones that fail, delete the skip decorator where they would pass, and file follow-ups where they can't.

Priority

Low. This is doc-hygiene, not a runtime bug. But it has caused real confusion — a reader cannot trust comments that explain what isn't true about the code.

Resolution

Done in two commits:

Mark/easystitch@850be32 (commit on origin/main)

  • Updated 3 doc-comments in pipeline_runner.py to clearly state this module is the engine-side stub and that production digitize requests are served by the service's pipeline_runner.py (closed as Mark/Kimi_Agent_Brother_10_Digitizing_App#16 on 2026-06-28).
  • The 5 unit tests in tests/unit/test_pipeline_runner.py continue to pass — they assert the placeholder run() contract.

Mark/easystitch-service@80589e2 (commit on origin/main)

  • Updated the v1-router comment in app.py:154 to remove the "501 stub" claim and document the actual wired endpoints.
  • Implemented the 5 previously-stubbed tests/integration/test_digitize_e2e.py tests with real assertions against the actual pipeline:
    • test_digitize_simple_square_smoke — verifies the basic 200 response shape
    • test_digitize_returns_within_budget — verifies the response within REQUEST_TIMEOUT_S
    • test_digitize_settings_affect_output — verifies response keys for different settings
    • test_export_round_trip_to_pes_bytes — verifies a real PES file is produced (uses a 64x64 fixture PNG, asserts #PES0001 magic header)
    • test_resolve_threads_finds_best_match — verifies bright red resolves within ΔE<50
  • Added tests/fixtures/solid_orange_box_64x64.png (orange field + black square) so the digitizer produces stitchable regions instead of the 1x1 PNG's empty result.
  • Fixed the importlib probe from import easystitch to import src.main_pipeline (the editable install does not register a top-level easystitch module).

Validation

  • pytest tests/integration/test_digitize_e2e.py -v → 5/5 pass
  • pytest tests/ -q → 93/93 pass
  • Lint clean: ruff check tests/integration/test_digitize_e2e.py

Closes #102.
