Editor's Path Properties has 'Density' but no 'density profile' (e.g., gradient density) — user wanting density to vary along the path (denser at the start, sparser at the end) has no UI #388

Finding"

grep -rn 'densityProfile\|densityGradient' src/components/editor/ returns 0. The editor has no density variation.

Embroidery often uses density variation:

  • Denser at the start (more stitches for solid color)
  • Sparser at the end (fewer stitches for a tapered look)
  • A "fade out" effect

A user wanting this:

  • Has no UI to set it
  • Would have to use multiple paths

The fix is a density profile.

Where

  • Path Properties: src/components/editor/EditorRightPanel.tsx
  • No density profile: grep -rn 'densityProfile' src/components/editor/ returns 0

Suggested fix shape

  1. Type: add densityProfile: 'uniform' | 'linear' | 'ease-in' | 'ease-out' | 'ease-in-out' to the StitchPath type.

  2. UI: a SelectField in the Path Properties section:

<SelectField
  label="Density profile"
  value={p.densityProfile ?? 'uniform'}
  options={[
    { value: 'uniform', label: 'Uniform' },
    { value: 'linear', label: 'Linear (start to end)' },
    { value: 'ease-in', label: 'Ease in (sparse → dense)' },
    { value: 'ease-out', label: 'Ease out (dense → sparse)' },
    { value: 'ease-in-out', label: 'Ease in/out' },
  ]}
  onChange={(v) => onUpdateDensityProfile(p.id, v)}
/>
  1. Visual: a small chart showing the density along the path.

  2. Use cases:

  • Tapered designs
  • Gradient effects
  • Quilting with varying density
  1. History: single undoable action.

Severity**

Low. The user can split into multiple paths. Power users notice.

  • Wilcom/Hatch have density profiles. The editor's gap is the parallel.
