Editor's stitch type dropdown shows 5 types but the 4 'coming-soon' types (Motif, Bean, Applique, Stem) are not visible at all — user with the help page open sees them documented but can't see them in the editor; the editor's parity with the help is … #332

Finding

The Help page (per Help.tsx:80-100) documents 9 stitch types:

  • 5 available: Satin, Fill, Running, Cross-Stitch, Zigzag (per #198)
  • 4 coming-soon: Motif, Bean, Applique, Stem

The editor's Path Properties dropdown only shows the 5 available. The coming-soon types are absent.

grep -rn 'motif\|bean\|applique\|stem' src/components/editor/ returns 0 hits.

A user with the help page open:

  • Reads about Motif, Bean, Applique, Stem
  • Tries to use them in the editor
  • Doesn't find them
  • Confusion: "Is the help wrong, or am I missing something?"

The fix is one of:

  • Show the coming-soon types in the dropdown with a "(coming soon)" label
  • Or update the help page to say "5 types available, 4 coming soon" more prominently

The first option is more user-friendly: the help accurately documents what will be available.

Where

  • Help page: src/pages/Help.tsx:80-100 (9 stitch types documented)
  • Editor dropdown: src/components/editor/EditorRightPanel.tsx (5 types shown)
  • The type: src/components/workspace/pathDefaults.ts:USER_FACING_STITCH_TYPES (5 types)
  • No coming-soon in code: grep -rn 'motif' src/components/editor/ returns 0

Suggested fix shape

  1. UI: in the stitch type dropdown, show all 9 types but mark the 4 as "coming soon":
<SelectField
  label="Stitch type"
  value={p.stitchType}
  options={[
    { value: 'satin', label: 'Satin' },
    { value: 'fill', label: 'Fill' },
    { value: 'running', label: 'Running' },
    { value: 'cross-stitch', label: 'Cross-Stitch' },
    { value: 'zigzag', label: 'Zigzag' },
    { value: 'motif', label: 'Motif (coming soon)', disabled: true },
    { value: 'bean', label: 'Bean (coming soon)', disabled: true },
    { value: 'applique', label: 'Applique (coming soon)', disabled: true },
    { value: 'stem', label: 'Stem (coming soon)', disabled: true },
  ]}
/>
  1. Disabled state: the 4 types are disabled in the dropdown.

  2. Tooltip on hover: "Motif: coming soon. Track this feature at github.com/Mark/Kimi_Agent_Brother_10_Digitizing_App/issues/[N]."

  3. OR add a "Request this feature" button that creates a feature-request issue with the user pre-filled.

  4. Or the simpler fix: update the help page to be clearer about what's available.

Severity

Low. The user can read the help. New users notice the gap.

Discovered by

Gap analysis (2026-10-02) of help/docs parity.

  • The Path Defaults section (per #198) is the same — only shows 5 types.
  • The Help page is the source of truth for the 9 types; the editor is incomplete.
  • Figma/Illustrator show all tools, even disabled ones (with "coming soon" labels).
