Editor's settings modal's Path Defaults section is collapsible but the user can't tell from the collapsed state what the current default is — user collapses it, comes back later, has to expand to remember what they set #275

Finding

src/components/workspace/PathDefaultsSection.tsx's Collapsible wrapper hides the body when collapsed. The user can see the section title "Path Defaults" but not the current values.

grep -n 'preview.*default\|defaultSummary' src/components/workspace/PathDefaultsSection.tsx returns 0.

A user who:

  • Opens Settings
  • Sets default to "fill, density 0.4"
  • Closes Settings
  • Opens Settings again
  • Sees "Path Defaults" header but doesn't remember what they set
  • Has to expand to see

The fix is to show the current values in the section header (or in a small subtitle), so the user can see the current state without expanding.

Where

  • PathDefaultsSection: src/components/workspace/PathDefaultsSection.tsx (the Collapsible)
  • The Collapsible: src/components/workspace/Collapsible.tsx (the wrapper)
  • No preview in title: grep -n 'preview' src/components/workspace/PathDefaultsSection.tsx returns 0

Suggested fix shape

Add a subtitle to the section header showing the current value:

<Collapsible
  title="Path Defaults"
  subtitle={`${defaults.defaultStitchType} · ${defaults.defaultDensity.toFixed(2)}`}
  icon={<Sparkles size={14} />}
  open={open}
  onToggle={onToggle}
>
  {/* existing body */}
</Collapsible>

The subtitle prop shows below the title when collapsed. The user sees "Path Defaults: fill · 0.40" without expanding.

This pattern works for all collapsible sections (Thread Library could show "8 custom colors", Color Simplification could show "12 → 6 colors").

Severity

Low. The user can expand. Power users with many collapsed sections notice.

Discovered by

Gap analysis (2026-10-02) of settings modal affordances.

  • The Collapsible component (per src/components/workspace/Collapsible.tsx) is the shared wrapper.
  • The Thread Library section has a similar "current value hidden when collapsed" issue.
  • The Color Simplification preview (per #271) is the same concern with labels in the body.
