Workspace's Color Simplification section is in Settings but has no clear 'current' / 'original' state label — user sees the preview but doesn't know what the current color count is or what the preview would change it to #271

Finding

src/components/workspace/ColorSimplificationPreview.tsx (per SettingsModal.tsx:7) shows the simplified preview. But the user doesn't see:

  • "Current: 12 colors"
  • "Preview: 6 colors"
  • "Reduction: 50%"

grep -rn 'currentColorCount\|originalColorCount' src/components/workspace/ returns 0.

A user opens Settings → Color Simplification:

  • Sees a preview of simplified colors
  • Doesn't know how many colors the design currently has
  • Doesn't know what the simplification level is
  • Has to slide the slider and try to count by eye

The fix is a clear "12 → 6 colors (50% reduction)" label.

Where

  • ColorSimplificationPreview: src/components/workspace/ColorSimplificationPreview.tsx
  • No current label: grep -rn 'currentColorCount' src/components/workspace/ returns 0

Suggested fix shape

At the top of the preview, show:

<div className="flex items-center justify-between mb-2">
  <div className="text-[12px]" style={{ color: '#6B6560' }}>
    Current: <span style={{ color: '#1A1A1A' }}>{currentCount} colors</span>
  </div>
  <div className="text-[12px]" style={{ color: '#6B6560' }}>
    Preview: <span style={{ color: '#E6A948' }}>{previewCount} colors</span>
  </div>
  <div className="text-[12px]" style={{ color: '#16A34A' }}>
    {reductionPct}% reduction
  </div>
</div>

The labels are computed from the design's current stitch objects and the simplification algorithm's output.

When the user moves the slider, the labels update live.

Severity

Low. The user can see the preview swatches. Power users with color-critical work notice.

Discovered by

Gap analysis (2026-10-02) of color simplification affordances.

  • #266 (open) — Color simplification apply. Same surface; the apply is downstream of the labels.
  • The settings modal's other sections (Thread Library, Path Defaults) have similar label patterns.
  • The Help page documents color simplification; the labels are the user-facing summary.

Shipped at fc781f2 on origin/main. Settings → Color Simplification Preview now shows a Current/Preview/reduction% row above the thumbnail; counts reuse the k=1..10 quantizer mapping already used by the on-Apply confirmation. Preview + reduction% update live as the slider scrubs. Two new regression tests in ColorSimplificationSection.test.tsx (default render + slider drag).
