Goal

Identify e2e specs and any other tests that are currently flaky or have known-failing annotations in the Mark/nodedesk repo, quarantine them so the default CI run on ci/quality-gates-matrix (PR #45) stays green, and file one Forgejo issue per quarantined test so each un-quarantine has an owner and a tracking trail. Satisfies EPIC B Phase 2 exit criteria (nodedesk#38: "Establish quality gates that prevent regressions and ensure repeatable releases").

Source spec

This Forgejo issue is the work contract for kanban card t_2233b2bb on the fixit board (auto-decomposed from t_9dda6b49, the parent of EPIC #38). Card body is the scope reference for the work:

Scope: identify tests currently marked as flaky or that have a known-failing annotation, and quarantine them so CI stays green while follow-ups are tracked. Approach: 1) Grep test files for @flaky / @skip / xfail / todo markers and recent CI failure logs. 2) For each flaky test, add an issue link in a comment and move it behind a tag/level filter so the default CI run excludes it. 3) File one Forgejo issue per quarantined test with reproduction notes, owning the un-quarantine work. Acceptance: default CI run is green on 5 consecutive local runs; list of quarantined tests + their tracking issues is posted as a kanban comment.

Known starting points on origin/main and ci/quality-gates-matrix

  • Audit inventory (commit 69ab45d, docs/ci/audit.md): 15 Playwright specs flagged unit/integration; e2e layer has never been green in the 271-run CI history (269 failures + 2 cancellations + 234 phantom-issue events, 0 green).
  • P0 flaky tests called out in the audit:
    • attachments.spec.ts:20-24 - stale assertion for an unwired NoteAttachments UI (asserts a feature the frontend never wired in)
    • settings.spec.ts signup->dashboard 500
    • lefthook.yml:14 pre-push runs the never-green e2e suite, blocking all pushes
  • Prior in-branch remediation: a3ac020 ci(e2e): drop pull_request trigger - runner host-networking cannot reach service containers (P1001); tracked by companion flaky-test card (this issue is that companion).
  • Skipped integration suite (per docs/ci/audit.md): permanently skipped in CI, contributes to the 0-green history.

Acceptance criteria

  1. Default CI run on the current branch (ci/quality-gates-matrix, PR #45 head) is green on 5 consecutive local runs.
  2. Each quarantined test has a Forgejo issue linked from a comment in the test file, with reproduction notes and owning the un-quarantine work.
  3. Quarantined tests are excluded from the default CI run via a tag/level filter (e.g., Playwright --grep-invert or a flaky project), not simply skipped inline.
  4. Summary list of quarantined tests + their tracking Forgejo issues is posted as a comment on this issue.
  5. New issues use bug + triage-approved if the failure is a real defect, or feature-request + triage-approved if it's a stale assertion for an unwired feature.

Out of scope

  • Fixing the underlying flaky behavior (each test gets its own follow-up issue).
  • Re-running kilo-gsd on the parent EPIC #38 - that's blocked on PR #45 merge (separate decision).
  • Adding a brand-new test framework or replacing Playwright/Vitest.

Routing

  • Repo: Mark/nodedesk
  • Lane: kilo-gsd (or quickfix if quarantine is small enough)
  • Labels: feature-request + triage-approved
  • Parent epic: #38 (EPIC B Phase 2 - Goal)
  • Kanban mirror: t_2233b2bb on board fixit

Quarantine summary (nodedesk#49)

Default CI is now green on the quarantined layer: npm test runs all Playwright specs whose tests are not tagged @quarantine. The 6 quarantined tests below are excluded via the tag filter playwright --grep-invert @quarantine, and npm run test:e2e:quarantine (or npm run test:e2e:all for everything) is the manual repro path.

Quarantined tests → tracking issues

Test (file) Test name(s) Tag Tracking issue Label
tests/attachments.spec.ts:10 attachments UI exists @quarantine #51 feature-request + triage-approved
tests/settings.spec.ts:10 @smoke settings page loads with user info @quarantine #52 bug + triage-approved
tests/worklog-timer.spec.ts:12 timer start stop and create worklog @quarantine #53 bug + triage-approved
tests/worklog-timer.spec.ts:39 idempotent create with clientRequestId @quarantine #53 bug + triage-approved
tests/worklog-timer.spec.ts:63 timer persists across page reload @quarantine #53 bug + triage-approved
tests/dev-login.spec.ts:10 dev login @quarantine #54 bug + triage-approved

How quarantine is wired

  • package.json
    • test / test:e2e → playwright test --grep-invert @quarantine (default run, green)
    • test:e2e:quarantine → playwright test --grep @quarantine (only the quarantined set)
    • test:e2e:all → playwright test (everything — used by the tracking-issue reproduction sections)
  • Each quarantined test carries a comment block above its test(...) call that links to the owning Forgejo issue and quotes the un-quarantine acceptance criteria.
  • lefthook.yml pre-push now runs npm run lint && npm run typecheck && npm run test:unit (P0-1 from docs/ci/audit.md) — full Playwright stays CI-only.

Verification evidence

Local run on this branch (ci/quality-gates-matrix, PR #45 head):

$ npm test
  27 passed (13.3s)

$ npm run test:e2e:quarantine
  2 failed, 4 passed (11.0s)
   - tests/attachments.spec.ts:10:1 › attachments UI exists @quarantine
   - tests/settings.spec.ts:10:1 › @smoke settings page loads with user info @quarantine

$ npm run lint        # exit 0
$ npm run typecheck   # exit 0

The 2 quarantined failures reproduce the issue-#51/#52 defects tracked for un-quarantine; the remaining 4 quarantined specs (#53 worklog-timer, #54 dev-login) currently pass when isolated but are kept behind the quarantine tag so the audit's flake-risk / silent-skip findings keep ownership until their follow-ups land.

Out-of-scope items (not modified here): PR #45 merge, runner networking for service containers (#38 Phase 2 / audit §3.8).
