Editor's Path Properties has 'Path Properties' but no 'show in object list' toggle — user wanting to hide a path from the path list (but keep it in the design) has no UI, only the canvas visibility toggle #383

Finding

grep -rn 'hideFromList\|showInList' src/components/editor/ returns 0. The editor has no "show in list" toggle.

A user with 30 paths:

  • Wants to hide 25 of them from the path list (focus on 5)
  • Currently: only the canvas visibility (per the row's eye icon)
  • The hidden paths are also hidden on the canvas

The fix is a separate "show in list" toggle.

Where

  • Path list row: src/components/editor/EditorRightPanel.tsx
  • No show-in-list: grep -rn 'showInList' src/components/editor/ returns 0

Suggested fix shape

  1. Type: add hidden: boolean to the StitchPath type (separate from visible: boolean).

  2. UI: a small eye-off icon in the path list row (distinct from the eye icon for canvas visibility):

<button
  onClick={() => onToggleHidden(p.id)}
  data-testid="hide-from-list"
  title="Hide from path list (but keep in design)"
>
  <EyeOff size={11} />
</button>
  1. Behavior: the path is still in the design (still rendered if visible), but not in the path list.

  2. "Show hidden" toggle: a "Show hidden paths" toggle in the path list's header:

<button onClick={() => setShowHidden((v) => !v)}>
  {showHidden ? 'Hide hidden' : 'Show hidden'} ({hiddenCount})
</button>
  1. Use cases:
  • Power users with many paths
  • Focus on a subset
  • The compact path list (per #267) uses this for "show only important"

Severity**

Low. The user can use canvas visibility (with the limitation that the path is also hidden on the canvas). Power users notice.

Discovered by

Gap analysis (2026-10-02) of editor path list affordances.

  • The eye icon (visibility) is for the canvas. The eye-off would be for the list.
  • #267 (open) — Compact path list. The compact view uses this.
  • Figma/Illustrator have layer visibility (canvas) and "show in layers panel" (list). Standard.

Implemented in commit f73af60 (origin/main). Adds a per-row eye-off button (compact + comfortable views) flipping hiddenFromList on each path, plus a Show hidden paths chip in the search/filter row (below the sort selector) that surfaces a count of off-list paths and toggles whether the list renders them. The path stays in the design — canvas, playback, export, and hit-test are unaffected. Mirrors the (#362) per-path favorite pattern end-to-end (new prop with disabled-fallback back-compat, new Editor handler with modifiedAt stamping, editor-only metadata stripped from engine export). 11 new tests in src/components/editor/issue-383.test.tsx.
